Welcome to our dynamic new Department of Chemical, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering. The department arose in early 2006 from the fusion of two key units within the School of Engineering: the departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering. This fusion provides the University of Connecticut a unique opportunity to build a world-class biomolecular engineering program in addition to the extant vibrant programs in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering.

With a combined world-class faculty of 19 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members and two research faculty - we have expertise in cutting-edge technological areas that span the full spectrum of chemical, environmental, polymers, materials, materials processing and characterization, nanotechnology, fuel cell science and technology, and biomedical and biomaterials engineering at the molecular level.

The Department of Chemical, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering will enjoy significant opportunities for cross-cutting research in many exciting areas, particularly in nanomaterials including biomaterials and nanoscale processes in biomaterials. As open positions are filled, a combined department would have a rare and compelling opportunity to make its mark in new areas such as biomaterials, nanopharmaceutics, biotechnology, and biological modeling, energy generation and storage, polymeric medicine, and others.
