ASM International Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships

  • George A. Roberts Scholarships - Seven scholarships at $6,000 each. Established in 1995 through a generous contribution by Dr. George A. Roberts, Past President of ASM and Retired CEO of Teledyne, as an expression of his commitment to education and the materials science and engineering community.

 

  • William Park Woodside Founder's Scholarship - One year full tuition of up to $10,000. Established in 1996 by Mrs. Sue Woodside Shulec in honor of her grandfather, William Park Woodside, a man whose vision and leadership evolved into the founding of ASM International.

 

  • Nicholas J. Grant Scholarship - One year full tuition. Established in 1990 by one of Dr. Grant's former students, Dr. Joseph R. Lane. Created to honor Dr. Grant and recognize students who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service.

 

  • ASM Outstanding Scholars Awards* - Three awards at $2,000 each, to recognize distinguished scholars.

 

  • ASM Foundation Scholarship Awards* - 12 awards at $1,000 each.

 

  • ASM Foundation Technical & Community College Scholarship Awards* - 10 awards at $500 each. Open to student members who are attending technical or community colleges, and training to be technicians in various engineering fields.

  • Extraction & Processing Division Scholarship - MAXIMUM VALUE: $2,500+

 

  • Electronic, Magnetic & Photonic Materials Division Gilbert Chin Scholarship - MAXIMUM VALUE: $2,500

ASM Arthur R. Geary Materials Science Award

 

The Southern Connecticut Chapter of ASM offers a $1000 scholarship for undergraduate students. The deadline is Jan. 30th of each year.

TMS Student Paper Contest

 

Sponsored by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), the Outstanding Student Paper Contest is open to both undergraduate and graduate student entries. A first prize of $1,000 ($750 cash + $250 travel expenses to personally receive the award) and a second prize of $500 ($250 cash + $250 travel expenses to personally receive the award) are awarded in each division.

Electronic Materials Best Paper Contest

 

Students may also enter papers in the Electronic Materials Best Paper Contest, which awards two $250 prizes: one for the best contribution to the Journal of Electronic Materials ; the other for the best presentation at the Electronic Materials Conference.

 

Powder Materials Graduate Student Presentation Contest

 

The Materials Processing & Manufacturing DivisionĴs Powder Materials Graduate Student Presentation Contest, sponsored by the Powder Metallurgy Committee, honors the best technical presentation at a TMS-sponsored meeting by a graduate student in the field of powder metallurgy. The winner receives $200 in cash plus $300 in travel expenses to attend the award ceremony. To be eligible, the presentation must be given by a graduate student on his/her M.S. or Ph.D. thesis research either during enrollment or not later than six months after graduation. The talk must pertain to the field of powder metallurgy and be presented either at a Powder Metallurgy Committee sponsored symposium or at a TMS general abstract session. Winners are chosen by at least three members of the Powder Metallurgy Committee during the TMS Annual Meeting. The award is presented at the TMS Fall Meeting.

 

Undergraduate Student Design Competition

 

The TMS Materials Science & Engineering Undergraduate Student Design Competition annually honors the premier design project submitted by a university. Entries may be submitted from departments of materials science and engineering, metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, ceramic engineering, and polymer engineering, or from related departments or programs (including but not limited to mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or chemistry). However, each institution is limited to one entry.
