The Polymer Program at The University of Connecticut

Research Experience for Undergraduates
Theme:  Sensors and Actuators
Summer 2006
June 5 - August 11

The Polymer Program at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, invites applications from undergraduate majors in the disciplines of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Polymer Science for 10 summer research positions sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  The participants will spend 10 weeks in an interdisciplinary environment working with UConn faculty and graduate students on application oriented research projects involving the use of polymers as sensors and actuators.

Participants will experience state-of-the-art facilities while performing cutting edge research in polymer science. During the summer, participants will be interact with researchers in academic, goverment and industrial laboratories through collaborative efforts of Polymer Program faculty and from seminars by visiting scientists.

This REU program is one of many at the University of Connecticut that coordinate social activities and hold joint symposia and poster sessions where students in different disciplines can share the REU experience. The programs at UConn host approximately 50 students who are housed together in modern, airconditioned dormitories from programs in:

Polymer - http://www.ims.uconn.edu/~polyreu
Chemistry - http://web.uconn.edu/chemistry/
Electrical Engineering - http://www.engr.uconn.edu/ece/ece_reu/

Support includes stipends of $3,000.00, a meal allowance and housing in University facilities and a travel allowance for non-UConn students. University recreational facilities will be available for use at a nominal fee. Selection of participants will be based on academic record, career objectives, and letters of recommendation.

Eligible students are U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science Majors who have completed their sophomore year by June 1, 2006. Application forms are available from this website or the address below. The application and two letters of recommendation should be forwarded to the address below.

Female and minority students are especially encouraged to apply
