Education

  • Ph.D. ,Soil Chemistry, University of Delaware, Newark, DE, 1987
  • M.A.S. Civil Engineering, University of Delaware, Newark, DE, 1985
  • C.F.C. Chemistry, C.E.P.I.A., Geneva, Switzerland, 1981

Research Focus

  • Effect of nanopores (small pores inside each individual mineral particle) on the entrapment of organic and inorganic compounds
  • Enhancement effect of carbon dioxide (CO2) on the adsorption of anions by soil constituents
  • Adsorption and desorption of CO2 on oxides, and its effect on proton adsorption
  • Effect of temperature and pressure on the volatility of adsorbed organic compounds
  • Validity of current methods for the determination of proton adsorption isotherms, with particular emphasis on the impact of background electrolytes
  • Competitive adsorption behavior of anions (such as SO 4 and SeO4) and organic compounds on oxide surfaces

Awards

Emil Truog Soil Science Award by the Soil Science Society of America, 1988
